Day-Tripping: Mystic, Connecticut

September 13, 2011

With Fall upon us, there’s no better time than now to pack up your favorite cinda b totes and head out for a fabulous weekend.  With the leaves in New England about to turn all orange and yellow, a small seaside town on the coast is tops on our itinerary.

If you’ve never been there, Mystic Connecticut is a picturesque destination with something for everyone.  There are three main attractions in Mystic, and hundreds of activities.

History and architecture buffs will enjoy Mystic Village and Seaport, an authentic town from colonial times that has been lovingly preserved.  It’s an extensive area that includes the last remaining wooden whaling ship the Charles W. Morgan, many homes, colonial shops and demonstrations.

The downtown area, made famous by the Julia Roberts film Mystic Pizza is a cute gathering of shops, restaurants and cafes.  Shoppers will find goodies for everyone on their list, including a large emporium just for dogs called The Black Dog.

And last but not least, the famous Mystic Aquarium features some of the penguins that appeared in the Jim Carey film, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Dr. Robert Ballard’s Institute for Exploration, and lots of colorful exhibits.
