Pack Your Bags ~ Brussels Awaits! (Plus Win an e-Tablet Sleeve)

July 16, 2012

Remember those remarkable floral carpets in Italy we told you about a few weeks back?  If you’re dismayed that you missed them this year, take heart, Brussels, Belgium will be launching their bi-annual carpet of flowers in just a few weeks!  The Carpet of Flowers is a enormous work created from Begonias covering the main square in the Grand-Place.  It’s made on every even year, meaning we’re on for 2012.  It’s called the Tapis de Fleurs in French and opening night will be August 14th – the show will continue through August 19th.  Each year a new theme is chosen – above is from 1986 and depicts the Coat of Arms for the City of Brussels.  The work below is from 2010 and celebrates the Belgian Presidency of the European Union.  You can see all the years past and preview this years theme here.

When you’re done admiring the Begonias, you can indulge in Belgium’s culinary confections.  Often thought of as the chocolate capital of the world (Hershey Pennsylvania not withstanding) – Belgium’s passion for chocolate began when the Spaniards, who ruled Belgium in the 17th century, brought cacao seeds back from South America.

As Boscov’s Travel Blog tells us: “Today the Grand Place is bordered with chocolate shops that trail out past the winding cobblestone streets. Inside the shops, chocolates are displayed like jewels in glass cases and locals passing by frequently pop in for a few pieces. Be sure to also sample pralines as they are filled with a variety of nougats and creams. If you still can’t get enough, there are a number of chocolate tasting tours offered and they are delicious fun. Pierre Marcolini and Laurent Gerbaud feature superb chocolates and are ideal places to sample some of the city’s best.”

Belgium as you most likely know, is also sweet on waffles and along with chocolate are considered part of the city’s street food culture and you can pick them up from street venders everywhere.

Which brings us to a gorgeous little colorway we like to call Bella Fiore Cocoa – doesn’t it just sound like it belongs in Brussels? It features a myriad of dancing flowers set against a background of rich chocolate.  One of our most enduring colorways due it’s enormous popularity Bella Fiore Cocoa, is especially great as a book bag, tote, or travel bag.  Shown below in our Vertical Tote it goes happily from coffee houses to classrooms.

Those pictures are beautiful! The Bella Fiore is one of my favorites – I can’t decide if I like it better in the raspberry or cocoa. They are both gorgeous!

Everything looks so delicious and rich in Belgium. A country I would definitely like to learn more about. After downloading some travel books my kindle would rest nicely in a Bella Fiore Cocoa sleeve!

Heavenly!! Belgium, chocolate, waffles, and beautiful flowers at my birthday-what a wish for 2014 and my 40th birthday! I absolutely love Bella Fiore Cocoa. I have a tote, multiple accessories, as well as a hipster for lightweight use. I don’t however have an e-tablet sleeve. What a great birthday surprise since I can’t make Belgium this year.

I love that you can mix the Bella Fiore cocoa and raspberry – no need to choose just one! I’ve never been to Belgium, but – even though my birth certificate doesn’t say so – I’m pretty sure my true middle name is chocolate :)

This would be such a great addition for a trip to Belgium. Not only a great tablet sleeve, but somewhere to swaddle those great Belgian Waffles! :)

Wow!! Scrolling down through the photos, I was in love when I saw the flowers, then I moved to the chocolate, then pastries and then the beautiful bag. Am I in heaven?
