Halloween is just 4 weekends away! – we think it’s time to get started on some fun fall projects to bring in the season, starting with the centerpiece of any good Halloween deco: the pumpkin.
Much like color trends and heel heights in fashion, every year we seem to see pumpkin styles that evolve from simply carved the old fashioned way with a candle, to very elaborate lights and props. Last year, glittered and sequined pumpkins were on every chic doorstep, before that creative ways with lights.
This year the trend seems to be painted pumpkins. You can paint them simply with glossy white, silver metallic, matte pewter or black paint. The House of Smiths (below) created lovely white pumpkins and displayed them on a pedestal. You can also add a little glitter and wire as Sarah’s Never Ending Projects blog shows (below) and display them in groupings. You can add decals on top of the paint to make them even more interesting like A Cultivated Nest did (bottom).
If you have more time, try the very clever patterns above that we found in this month’s Country Living (above). The beetle was created using a stencil – the other two freehand paint and markers did the trick. We love the look – and think we might try making a few pumpkins decorated in our Empire Slate and new Mod Tortoise colorways – wouldn’t that be fun!!??
