Founder + Chief Creative Office, Cinda Boomershine, shares inspirations, ideas, and insights for her daughter, Calypso Belle’s, first birthday!
Baby B is 1 and with that milestone, we needed to celebrate! But here was the kicker, I wasn’t able to start planning until about three weeks before her big day. During those three weeks leading up to the party, my crazy schedule had me traveling to 12 different states until the night before her party. I had to be super organized and efficient to pull this party off. I thought I’d share my techniques to help all the busy Moms out there do the same.
First up, I needed a theme for the party. The first places I turned to for inspiration were Pinterest and Etsy – There are so many adorable ideas out there (Check out our First Birthday Party Ideas Board on Pinterest). I decided to keep it easy, and stick with what I know. I chose to use two of the cinda b patterns as our theme. I was off and running with a Scala Ivory and Empire Slate themed party.
Next up was the invitation. On etsy I found this adorable party package that had not only an invite but also coordinating banners, gift tags, water bottle wraps and a few other goodies. There were even matching party hats! The beauty of the package was that it was a DIY project. The shop owner will customize it for you, then will email everything to you can so you print and assemble it yourself – which saves you heaps of cash (something I am always game for). The shop owner was kind enough to customize my package even further by replacing the patterns in her package with our cinda b patterns.
Once I received the graphics, we got crafty. I printed the graphics out, then assembled and embellished them as time allowed (usually late at night and with a ton of the help from Mark and our multi-talented babysitter Ashley). The pompoms on top of the party hats were a simple way to jazz them a bit.
One of the perks of manufacturing in the USA is that I have an entire factory at my disposal for crazy, last minute projects like this party. I was in need of tablecloths, so I had the amazing cinda b team whip some up for me. We also created the birthday girl a Scala Ivory bib and matching koozies for adult beverages. I know, it was a bit over the top, but why not enjoy the perks of the job?
I also needed party favors for the guests to take home. We made some of our adorable envelope pouches in Scala Ivory & Empire Slate. (Incidentally, the cinda b Envelope Pouch is currently available as a free gift when you purchase $50 or more of cinda b product. But hurry, as this is a limited time offer. Find a store near you!)
For other decorations, we pulled items from her nursery like her Empire Slate elephant, her favorite BlaBla Dolls and a painting her Daddy, Mark Boomershine, did for her. Then we went crazy with appropriately colored balloons. Key learning point – allow for plenty of time to blow up balloons or get a helper for that. It took forever and I was literally blowing up balloons until the first guests arrived!
We kept the menu super simple – pizza, salad, fruit & cupcakes. But of course, we added some unexpected touches. We ordered pizza, but it was gourmet pizza from Mellow Mushroom. We affixed custom pizza box toppers that labeled each different type so our guests didn’t have to open all the boxes to find their favorite slice. I bought cupcakes from Cami Cakes and topped them with the custom toppers we made ahead of time.
All in all, the party was a success and Belle had a blast!
