Three Steps for Decorating with Color

Posted on 17 November 2015

One thing I'm not afraid to admit is that I'm undeniably hooked on hue. It brings joy, happiness and fun into just about anything. Think about it, a sunset without color is simply sad, a garden without vibrant blooms is just a yard, and a snow cone missing its sugary spritz is I've always been one to color outside the lines, if you will. That love for color is one of the real reasons I chose a career in design, first as an interior designer and now with cinda b. Pops of color can take an outfit or room to the next level. But let's face it, adding color to your home can be a little tricky and often intimidating. But it does not have to be!

To inspire your style, I've developed a simple, three step approach for decorating with color. You'll be filling your rooms with color in no time.

Establish your anchor. This can either be that piece you own and must work with (hello sofa) or it can be a piece you fall in love with and want to use. For this example, let's use this beautiful bold green rug from Chairish as our anchor.

Next you need what I like to call your bridge. This an item that pulls the color out of your anchor piece and also introduces new colors. Artwork, throw pillows, bedding or even china can all be great bridges. Here I chose a pillow that incorporated the green from the rug and then adds other brights and pops of colors I want to pull throughout the room. I chose to include a cinda b Calypso Market Tote for inspiration of pattern and graphic vibrancy.

Using the colors in your bridge as your guide, select the remaining items for your room.  Art, lighting, throw blankets, even small accessories like bookends are all great places to put color.

Those are the steps I have used to design countless homes including my own home.  We've also pulled some inspirational spaces that all command color and are, of course, Pinterest-worthy for your pinning spree.

I discovered Cinda b at a local store and bought a makeup bag a few yrs ago. I just loved it for trips as it it stands up straight and I can throw things in it-and Ieven took to pool on vaca’s-grt. for my phone and Kindle, room key and lotion!
I then progressed to buying other things. I may be the worlds worst stickler for quality and performance. They have exceeded my expectations.
I bought stuff for my daughter, my granddaughter.
I just received a package today and it had the bonus tote in it. I expected it to be junky as they are when you order a magazine subscription. WOW-the quality of the free tote blew me away. and when I ordered for my daughter last month they got one too! I got my daughter that cute new beach bag in the blue. it is fabulous.
I would be proud to carry things in the free tote. Customer service has been great, as I had to order a third tote for me to take to beach. Returns a cinch.
I require the straps to be long as I have bigger arms.I just got the perfect one today! The market toe in tortoise, that matches my Tortoise Clutch and Tortoise makeup bag.
I got my daughter a fabulous black hipster for her upcoming trip to Europe, and granddaughter a Curing Iron holder and also a makeup bag to match the weekender I bought her last month.
Nope I have nothing to do with company- I just like to reward a company with kind words for a job well done. And made in America -thats why quality of fabric and sticking is excellent!
